1. STOP immediately. If practical, move your vehicle enough so as to avoid obstructing traffic. Do not attempt to move a disabled vehicle
(don’t push or “limp” a damaged car). Do not leave the scene until you
have completed this list of suggested actions.
2. ASSIST any injured persons. Have someone call the police.
Repeat the call after 5 minutes.
3. SECURE names, phone numbers, addresses of drivers, witnesses,
and injured persons.
4. RECORD drivers license number(s) and insurance carrier(s) of
other driver(s).
5. RECORD make, model, and license plate numbers of all vehicles involved.
6. MAKE A ROUGH DRAWING of scene, showing position and direction
of cars and other details. If you have a camera or cell phone with
built-in camera, take pictures of scene and damages.
7. DO NOT hastily accept blame or admit fault (this is not your
responsibility to determine). Do not accept claim settlement
at the scene of the accident.
8. REMAIN CALM. Be courteous and consistent in your account of the
accident.
